A reflection on the resurrection & marriage by Robert Bagdon Sr., husband, father, & Master of Theology through the Augustine Institute:
“Happy Easter, everyone!Let this season allow us to enter more fully into the glorious mystery of Our Lord’s Resurrection through much rejoicing and reflection. The risen Lord here and now hears our prayers and is right now answering them.
As married couples, let us beseech the Lord, who gloriously fulfilled His promise to rise from the dead to bear the fruit of hope in our lives by the power of the sacrament of marriage, a sign of the heavenly marriage.
Let Christ rise in every marriage so that He may lift the spouses to heaven and fill them with the hope of the resurrection so that they may fill their family with that great hope of love which puts to death all sin and despairing.
This Easter season, let us recognize that our sacramental marriages are one with Christ through the sacramental life of the Church.
In contemplating this mystery, we pray that we may evermore dwell in Him and He in us. Without the sacraments how can we hope to live a moral married life? How can we hope to truly commune with our families and with God now and for all eternity?
As St. Paul says, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins” (1 Cor 15:17). Without the sacraments we are dead in our sins, so let us rejoice that Christ gives to the Church these great gifts elevating marriage to be among the other sacraments as a sign of the risen Lord and the marriage feast to come.
Let the sacraments bear fruit in your life as proof of Christ’s promises.”
